We interviewed the Operations Director of a large coworking space, they have managed and run coworking spaces around the world over the last 5 years. These are their ‘Top 5 Tips” plus one extra, surprising, bonus tip at the end.
Know your audience
Curate your space, don’t just invite anyone in. One of the top 5 reasons people select a coworking space is because they want to be with like-minded people.
Create good content, events and enable networking
You’re not just an office as a service; create an enjoyable, interactive, social community. This is great advice and is the number one reason people select a coworking space and a lack of it is the number one reason people leave a coworking space.
Frictionless usability — try to include everything in the base charge
No-one likes being nickel and dime’d for simple services that should be included in a base-fee. It’s time consuming to manage and bill for, and can generate ill-will, ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze.
Create a well-designed space
No one likes a long hike to the printer. Good office infrastructure is a very important factor people look at when selecting a coworking space.
Build flexible, scalable spaces for growing startups
Avoid large charges for combining offices. If you’re building private offices, think about ways you can combine them into larger offices without lots of cost.
And the bonus tip
Be Pet Friendly
We’ve seen a huge uptick in the number of people wanting to bring a pet to work. Make sure your building supports this and that you have guidelines for members wanting to bring their pet into your coworking space.
